Read this blog for very long, and you will find I am an avid fan of 37signals and their signature product, Basecamp. I resonate deeply with their business philosophy and product philosophy.
20 years ago, 37signals began as a web design firm. However, as they transitioned into a product business, further iterations of their product became more tailored to businesses like theirs.Â
If you’re doing software development, then, Basecamp’s Shape Up process is a dead ringer.
I’m not one to reinvent the wheel. So when I started looking for a project management philosophy to govern how my agency operates, I didn’t have to look very far. I love Basecamp, and Basecamp is built to facilitate the Shape Up process.
So what we’ve done is begun adapting bits of this process for ourselves and using it with clients. So far, it’s worked great.
As I add posts to this series periodically, I’ll cover one process and talk about how we’ve implemented it successfully.Â
Here’s what we’ve got so far:
• The Heartbeat
• Setting Appetites
• Project Kickoffs / Shaping
We’ll talk about the Heartbeat first up!
Hope you enjoy this series and get some value out of it.
