Waiting is expensive

AI & Futurism

Days feel like years in the age of AI. Two stories:

Recently, I and a good friend have been discussing the weightier matters of our AI future. It so happens that he runs an AI company.

I've spent the last few weeks head-down tinkering with a new tool called OpenClaw. It's buggy, has security vulnerabilities, and is probably not ready for the normie masses yet. You gotta be a bit of a nerd to even attempt working with it.

He made a comment in our discussion thread that I understand and even agree with, but I think it represents a mindset that should be challenged. The essence of the comment was, "Just wait six months and all these tools will be way easier to use, more secure, and mainstream."

This... is likely true. Especially since the OpenAI acquired Peter Steinberger and took OpenClaw under its wing to maintain in a separate open source foundation.

But even if it is true... six months?!

To put this in perspective. And I am being literal -- no hyperbole -- I'll bet I've been 10x more productive (even fighting some of the bugginess) in the last six weeks than I have in the last six months.

If you're not one to endlessly tinker and know how to plug new tools into your existing systems and processes, you'd be simply shocked at what you can do.

So do I disagree with him? No! I respect the heck out of him, he is way more informed on the inner workings of these matters and I agree... This tech is dangerous and difficult.

And yet, knowing what I know now (I can SOLIDLY trace at least low 5-figures of revenue so far this year to my AI endeavors, and I'm sure more to come), there's no way I could wait six months. That's like asking me to wait six years!

Another story:

Scrolling X the other day I came across perhaps the most asinine post on the platform. It said:

Don't quit your job until you have at least 50k MRR in your business.

Say what now? 50k MRR?

Get a life, man.

Want to know when I quit my job? When I had 5k/month MRR. 10x less!

And it was the best decision I ever made!

I'm not telling you to do either. It's all dependent on your income situation.

But chances are slim you need anything near such a number. That's just a scare tactic to eliminate future competition. If I truly believed it would take that, I would have never left. Which would have been the biggest mistake of my life.

The lesson today is simple: waiting is freaking expensive.

There are times to push and times to pull in business. This is a push time if I've ever seen one. This moment in history is unique.

2026 will go down as a banner year. If you're waiting to make a move... consider moving now instead. 2025 was a wait year. This year is not. Go! Go! Go!
